AHF Taskforce - Pandemic Fund Advocacy

The World Bank’s Pandemic Fund, launched in September 2022, and formally introduced under Indonesia’s G20 Presidency at the November 2022 G20 meetings in Bali, is the first multilateral financing mechanism dedicated to providing multi-year grants to help low- and middle-income countries prepare for future pandemics.

annual need

Despite raising $2 billion in seed capital, the Fund’s ambition falls short of the estimated $10.5 billion annual need as gap-financing to achieve a fit-for-purpose PPPR architecture. This significant shortfall underscores the urgent need for increased funding and more aggressive resource mobilization to address critical gaps in global health security.

We are committed to ensuring equity remains at the core of these initiatives.

The AHF Global Public Health Institute advocates for essential resource mobilization, emphasizing the importance of sustainable long-term financing for comprehensive PPPR efforts.

Our advocacy underscores the need for adequate regional representation, swift fund disbursement with minimal administrative overhead, and robust accountability measures within the Pandemic Fund.

By pushing for a bold and ambitious Pandemic Fund, we aim to enhance cooperation, reduce redundancy, and ensure resources are directed where they are most needed, ultimately improving global health security and equity.
